Are you an experienced Workshop Manager looking for an exciting new challenge?
Genesis Outsourcing are recruiting on behalf of our Cheltenham-based client for a Workshop Manager who will be responsible for managing a small, but growing, team of permanent fabrication, installation and finishing staff.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activity within the workshop, its upkeep and development (including fabrication stations, a blacksmith, a shot-blast, painting and thermal arc shop and stock control).
Your day-to-day duties will include:
* Ensure that the workshop is kept clean and organised, introducing new systems where needed
* Setting and maintaining an extremely high standard of work with a keen eye for detail.
* Oversee the management of workshop storage and deliveries, managing goods in-out.
* Working closely with the Operations Manager to improve production, quality, and on-time delivery targets.
* Overseeing and assist in the fabrication and construction of a wide range of bespoke items.
* Managing the workshop team and appropriately allocating space and resources, managing workshop workflow and efficiency.
* Managing and disciplining staff in line with company procedures.
You will also be responsible for managing site staff on their return from site installations, ensuring they store their equipment safely, correctly and in an appropriate location. When they are not working on site you will be responsible for assigning them specific tasks.
As a successful candidate you must be able to:
* Accurately work from and interpret detailed drawings as and when required. This will be a hands-on role.
* Oversee safe operation and maintenance of all tools and machinery.
* Operate and maintain in good working order manual and bench power tools.
* Operate and develop the workshop to meet agreed budgetary constraints and requirements.
* Help to prepare installation teams project `packages' so they can load their vans quickly
* Take responsibility for all matters of Health and Safety (such as ensuring all necessary signage is in place and updated for the workshop)
* Ensure all risk assessments are kept updated and drafted where necessary
* Maintain tools and machinery to a safe standard and in line with current Health and Safety policy and COSHH standards.
* Take control of First Aid onsite; both administering first aid and keeping documentation up to date.
As part of your role you will also be responsible for Workshop Maintenance. This will involve:
* Maintaining an inventory of tools and equipment
* Replacement and repair of equipment where necessary
* Ordering of materials and consumables
* Managing waste systems
* Working with Operations Manager to book annual servicing of tools, plant and equipment.
Skills, experience and qualifications:
To be considered for this role we are looking for candidates that have:
* Considerable experience as a metal worker/fabricator
* Experience as a Workshop Manager. We are looking for a candidate who can run workshops and oversee the operations within the workshop.
* Experience of managing people, motivating, and inspiring them to achieve their fullest potential.
* A forklift licence would be an advantage.
* A full driving licence is required for the role, a licence that allows (either by date of acquiring licence or through attendance) the towing of trailers from vans and pick-ups would be an advantage.
