Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

- Use CNC programming, setting, operating skills for machining materials to drawing and instruction, meeting the requirements of the department and/or managers and supervisors.
- Read, interpret and understand technical drawing details.
- Plan and organise processes, giving due consideration to efficiency and productivity.
- Set 4-axis CNC Milling Machine Centres and operate accordingly; including jigs, fixtures and tooling.
- Conduct machining processes as required and directed by the line manager and drawing instruction
- Use suitable measuring equipment to establish correct fit and tolerance to drawing, specification and instruction. Completing Quality Control documentation accordingly.
- Clean and maintain equipment, tooling and workshop environment
- Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and punctually
- Follow Health & Safety procedures (including wearing necessary Person Protective Equipment) to ensure safe working practices for self and for others.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Producing parts as required to the specifications and drawings.
• Operating Siemens 840D controls.
• Setting one off components using clamps, angle plates, etc.
• Software use, modelling using Solid works, programming using NCG Cam (Training will be provided on software).
• Marking off.
• Use of overhead cranes.
• Correctly identifying parts using hard stamping.
• Deburring components.
• Maintaining machinery, swarf removal, routine oiling and greasing etc.
• Carry out daily bookings.
• Adhere to and encourage health and safety methods and procedures.
• Inspection for all components throughout the process.
• Make sure all Machine Shop areas are tidy and organised.
• Forklift truck driving.
• Complete flexibility and mobility of labour as necessary.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Report to Machine Shop Supervisor with any problems or issues when necessary. For example: any health and safety issues or machine breakdowns must be reported.
• Inspection of work. Any non-conforming processes must be reported to team leader or Manager.
• Instruct and help train other Machine Shop personnel
• Continually keeping the department of clean and tidy as possible

The Background and Role

An innovative organisation in a specialist defence related industry is looking for a multi-skilled Fitter/Toolmaker to join their team.

The Person

The successful candidate will be experienced, time-served in a fitter/toolmaker role with a wide cross-section of manual machining skills. With an extensive knowledge of manual lathes and mills, you will be comfortable machining to exacting standards. You will possess the relevant qualifications as listed (C&G, EITB), and will be required to support the development demands of the company in a quick and efficient manner to ensure our customers' tight timescales are met.
Primary Job Function;
Use key skills in the development, manufacture, testing and support of company's projects.
Key Skills;
Extensive experience in the operation of manual lathes and mills.
Experience in working to exact standards on complex, tight tolerance parts.
Broad understanding of mechanical processes.
Ability to work as part of a small team
Desirable Skills;
Knowledge of electro-pneumatic equipment
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience:
Preferably 5+ years in engineering manufacturing environment.
Education/Qualifications Required
C&G Mechanical Craft Studies (Parts I, II & III with a minimum pass level of Credit), EITB First Year 'Off The Job' Certification, EITB Module Training Certification, Toolmaking & Fitting and Indentured Apprenticeship.

Must be a UK national and will need to pass security vetting upon employment.
